Initial Consultation

We believe it is important to make all of our patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their visits.

Your first visit will sometimes last up to an hour. The reason it might take extra time is because we need a full case history, which includes your current problem and past medical history. The osteopath may ask questions about your occupation, pastimes and hobbies.

You will normally be asked to remove some clothing, to allow for examination, and to perform some simple movements. This is so the osteopath can check your posture and evaluate how you use your body. If patients are nervous they are very welcome to bring a chaparone (however we are currently discouraging this due to Covid, sorry), or ask to see a specific practitioner. The osteopath then uses the highly developed sense of touch known as palpation to identify any points of weakness or excessive strain throughout the body.

To allow for a full diagnosis and suitable treatment plan, there may be a need for additional medical investigations such as MRI scans or blood tests. These can sometimes be arranged privately or by referral back to your GP.

If osteopathy is deemed suitable for your condition, an estimated prognosis will be given and treatment commences immediately.

If you have any questions, or think that osteopathy may benefit you, please call us at the Bexleyheath Osteopathic Practice on 020 8298 7122.
